onefootinthegrave asked: can you guys explain a little bit of how promotion/relegation works? Like I know Blackpool got relegated last year, but are they doing well in the lower league this year because they have better facilities/a larger payroll from being in the top league previously?

Hannover 96 uses survey of sex-related questions... →
Hannover’s players have been asked to disclose their sexual interests as part of a survey designed to help their coach understand them better.
The psychological test, to be undertaken on a voluntary basis by the Bundesliga club’s squad, includes statements such as: “I am what you could call sexually unrestrained”; “I want any sex I can get” or “I have...

Neil Warnock was loved at QPR, but he had his... →
One point above the drop zone, Queens Park Rangers sacked the manager who’d saved them from League One and had them head and shoulders above the rest of the Championship last season, Neil Warnock.
Warnock has as many detractors as supporters — many of them either from his days at Selhurst Park or who remember his kvetching spell against Liverpool over fielding a weakened side against...

Liverpool FC statement 20 12 11 - Liverpool FC →
This is probably one of the more tone-deaf defenses I’ve read in some time. Pulling out the “black family members”, i.e., the “some of his best friends” are black card is probably the lowest route you can go in defending Luis Suarez.
The problem for Suarez is that he apparently copped to using the word “negro” and it’s hard for a Westerner to see...

North America's First Supporters' Trust →
pitchinvasion:
Supporters of the USL PDL’s Victoria Highlanders FC have formed what’s being called “North America’s First Supporters’ Trust”. And really, they’re correct as far as I know.
Sure, Portland has a “trust” (and it’s great), but this is a supporters’ trust that has an actual ownership share in the club. Interestingly, it’s also a “profit-sharing” model (see this PDF). Fascinating,...

He’s the best entertainment in soccer this year, even if the rumors are false. They should be true just because they’re awesome.
Shine on, you crazy diamond.

Peter Wilt: Fixing Pro Women’s Soccer in the... →
snipoppers16:
Peter Wilt, basically known as a soccer franchise God to Chicagoans, not only points out the biggest flaws in WPS, but, unlike anyone else, provides a detailed suggestion of how to sustain a women’s pro league in the US.
Anyone think this could work? It wouldn’t be good for a lot of careers because of the slashing of money involved, but women’s soccer in the U.S....

Eric Wynalda probably jumped over some sort of... →
beautifulgameamerica:
I found this tweet disturbing, to be honest. It is not the type of thing, in my opinion, for a national commentator to be speculating on in a public forum like Twitter. It is too easy to be seen as race-baiting without facts to back it up. Yes, there is an intense rivalry between the USA and Mexico in terms of the national teams and yes, at times there have been some...

Antonio Cassano of AC Milan may have had a stroke →
Reports from Italian news agency Ansa claimed he had suffered a stroke.
Allegri said: “We’ll be playing for Antonio. Quite apart from the sporting element, what counts most is the human aspect and we’re all feeling sad.”
Cassano had complained of finding it difficult to speak or move when the team arrived back in Milan in the early hours of Sunday morning.
