Tim Howard of Everton scores from 100+ yards away in today’s loss to Bolton Wanderers. On the upside though, he now has more goals in 2012 than the entire Manchester United team. (Sorry to you United supporters, but it’s just too easy right now).

The riots throughout England have claimed another football match, as Saturday’s season opener between hosts Tottenham Hotspur and visiting Everton has been postponed. As most of you are probably aware, the Seven Sisters Road area in North London was the flashpoint of the riots, and at one point, Spurs club store (sitting on the High Street just outside White Hart Lane) was vandalized in the mayhem.
Sunderland manager Steve Bruce offered up this quote on the terrible situation:

I think I stand for the whole of the country. We are outraged and shocked by what we have seen. I hope the Premier League can get started. In my opinion, it would be wrong to let these idiots and thugs who are doing what they are doing disrupt everything. We will be guided by the authorities, but I echo what most people think and what most people are saying. I am saddened and shocked that our country could come to something like that.

At this point, all other season-opening Premier League fixtures are still going forward as scheduled. Fulham is the only other London club with a home fixture this weekend. Let’s all hope that sanity and lawful behavior begins to reassert itself soon.

This is the shirt Tim Howard will have to wear come the next Prem season. Everton have already blundered with the Pepto pink away kit. Now the club’s decided to hop on the unfortunate camo trend for its keepers.

Everton 2-0 Liverpool
Despite the presence of the new owners, Liverpool had another poor outing today in the Merseyside Derby.  It appears this fine fellow sums up the feelings of the Red half of Mersey quite succinctly.

League One Brentford knocks Premier League Everton out of Carling Cup

This was a genuine upset too – David Moyes had started with a strong XI – and much credit must go to Andy Scott’s resourceful and well-organised team who were well worth their victory, sealed when Jermaine Beckford and Phil Jagielka missed from the spot after a 1-1 draw in normal time that carried unaltered through extra-time.

Other scores:

Birmingham 3-1 MK Dons
Burnley 1-0 Bolton Wanderers
Millwall 1-2 Ipswich Town
Peterborough United 1-3 Swansea City
Portsmouth 1-2 Leicester City
Stoke City 2-0 Fulham
Sunderland 1-2 West Ham United
Tottenham Hotspur 1-4 Arsenal
Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-2 Notts County

Tomorrow’s schedule:

Aston Villa v. Blackburn Rovers
Chelsea v. Newcastle
Scunthorpe v. Manchester United
Wigan Athletic v. Preston North End
Liverpool v. Northampton Town
West Bromwich Albion v. Manchester City
