Following Barcelona’s stunning defeat by Chelsea on Tuesday and the impending coronation of Real as champions of Spain, 41-year-old Guardiola informed the club of his decision, which is thought to be that he feels both he and the players would benefit from a change.
A press conference will be held later this morning.
Twitter said activity during the game — a 2-2 draw that saw Chelsea progress to the final after winning the first leg in London 1-0 — peaked at 13,684 messages per second. That beat out the previous record for a sporting event, the 12,233 tweets per second during the climax of February’s Super Bowl between the NFL’s New York Giants and New England Patriots, which saw New York win 21-17 after scoring a touchdown with less a minute remaining.

Have a look at this ridiculous strike from Dani Alves during Barcelona’s 5-0 romp over Mallorca yesterday, and pay special attention from 0:16 to 0:19 of Andres Iniesta on the bench as the players are reacting to the goal.

Here’s video of Jose Mourinho attempting to eye-gouge (or so it would appear) Barcelona assistant Tito Villanova’s eye during the fracas at the end of yesterday’s Super Cup.
The really good shenanigans start around the :15 mark or so.

Jose Mourinho may rage all he likes at the officials. Both sides played despicably save 11 minutes of brilliance from Leo Messi and Ibrahim Affelay. Real Madrid parked the bus and hoped no one would whistle their fouls; Barça dove like an Olympic team (looking at Dani Alves & Sergio Busquets in particular) while agitating with ref Wolfgang Stark to card RM players. This eventually led to a red card on Pepe which could be debated. I thought it yellow only, but when the studs are up on a tackle one runs the risk of a straight red. This opened up the field for Barcelona.
Mourinho can talk all about how he planned to open up after keeping it at nil for so long afterward, it didn’t happen, and to accuse Barcelona of fixing the refs is a smokescreen from his own craven game-planning.
Bad scene, everyone’s fault.

After a Manchester derby in the FA Cup semi-final, we head over to Spain for El Clásico at 4:00pm EST/21:00 GMT. In their last league meeting, Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona crushed José Mourinho’s Real Madrid in a 5 nil victory at Camp Nou. Will José’s tactical prowess see Real come away with the win? Or will Barcelona’s dominance continue?
As always, WHO YA GOT?
