afootballreport:

Eric Hassli has done it again.

Remember his unbelievable hit from last year? Well, it wasn’t a fluke. Eric Hassli pulled it off again in the first leg of the Canadian Championship finals between the Vancouver Whitecaps and Toronto FC last night. In injury time, Hassli’s right-footed strike had so much power that it actually made you feel for the net, nevermind the goalkeeper.

Studly.

Freddy Montero’s first goal of the season for Seattle Sounders was a sight to behold. The Los Angeles Galaxy and keeper Bill Gaudette may feel a bit differently though.

It’s fine if you’re a female and you want to be a super-fan. Clearly go for it, that’s your choice. But there is something to be said for how appealing that might be to the other sex. Having a woman that’s such a fan, like painting your face, tuning in to every podcast. I don’t know how many males would be into that.

It’s great that in Kansas City there are a lot of women in the stands, it’s great, but for the guy who wants maybe a serious relationship… If you are following just casually, but if you’re such a die-hard, I don’t know, it comes a point that it is a bit of a turn-off.

Simon Borg of Major League Soccer’s Extra Time Radio podcast.

A good write up of the situation is here at Jezebel.

I’ll turn this one over to you for your thoughts.

Considering the sweltering death that is summer in Texas, a sleeveless kit makes sense for the FC Dallas players, but why is it black?

Banner produced for a tifo display in Section 8 at the Chicago Fire home opener this past Saturday. The third photo shows Fire forward and top goalscorer in 2011 Dominic Oduro helping fans to paint the banner; Oduro then scored the winning goal in the Fire’s 1-0 victory following the display on Saturday.

The cf97 emblem was created by Fire supporters. It represents the club’s initials, the year of its founding and the civic elements of the star from the flag of Chicago and the municipal “Y” symbol below, representing the joining of the river’s branches downtown.

Very cool behind the scenes view into a banner getting made. They don’t just make themselves, you know.

So, I’ve been thinking about starting an MLS blog; kind of like NBA Off Season. If you’re an MLS supporter and would be into it, drop me a line.

We are hoping to have some big things going on here at this blog in the coming months, but if you’re into the MLS, make sure to shoot Doug an email & possibly join the Offseason team as it covers the league.

Eric Wynalda probably jumped over some sort of line

beautifulgameamerica:

I found this tweet disturbing, to be honest. It is not the type of thing, in my opinion, for a national commentator to be speculating on in a public forum like Twitter. It is too easy to be seen as race-baiting without facts to back it up. Yes, there is an intense rivalry between the USA and Mexico in terms of the national teams and yes, at times there have been some ugly incidents in stadiums. That does not mean everything is racially motivated, including a moment of madness at the end of a hard-fought playoff match that resulted in a loss for a high-powered high-money outfit. Marquez lost his head. That does not mean he did it because he hates Landon Donovan for being American. To draw that conclusion is disingenuous at best.

Apparently Rafa Marquez did not want to go to the West Coast, so he whipped the ball at Landon Donovan AFTER the final whistle yesterday. What a sportsman!
