No one can deny that the Pacific Northwest teams have been a fantastic addition to MLS. It’s clear that the city of Seattle supports the Sounders at an other-worldly level in what is an NFL-centric stadium. This number of tickets sold is an unreal accomplishment for an MLS club and is such a great thing for American soccer/football fans in general.

The Sounders’ Fredy Montero could not be contained. The first of his two goals was a textbook score off a free kick. Very little either the wall or Troy Perkins could have done about that one. Seattle took it 3-2.

Actually, Spirit of ‘77 (a sports bar in Northeast Portland and a very good one), is a bit wrong: the game starts at 1 PM Pacific on ESPN.
That said, after the cracking Women’s World Cup play, continue your footballing day with what is the nastiest derby in American domestic soccer — and this is the first season it’s been part of MLS! Portland and Seattle don’t like each other, and that goes double for the supporters’ groups (Timbers’ Army and Emerald City Supporters) — with enmity that goes back to the NASL days.
Seattle is on a good run after a slow start and Portland has been beset with injuries and a weak back four. The first tie at Qwest Field (or is it CenturyLink Field now?) ended in a 1-1 draw; now the return leg at Jeld-Wen Field in Portland begins in less than 30 minutes.
